Please help why have I gone astray?

In the pursuit of worldly success and material wealth, it's easy to lose sight of the deeper truths that underpin our existence. The Quran reminds us in Surah Al-Hadid, verse 20, "The Life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment" (57:20), serving as a poignant reminder of the transient nature of worldly pleasures and the illusory nature of material wealth.

Certainly, people can go astray from religion for various reasons. Here are some common factors that may contribute to this:

Lack of Understanding: Sometimes, individuals may not have a deep understanding of their religion's teachings, leading to confusion or misinterpretation of beliefs and practices.

Negative Experiences: Negative experiences within religious communities, such as hypocrisy, judgmental attitudes, or abuse, can cause individuals to become disillusioned with their faith and distance themselves from it.

Intellectual Challenges: Some people may encounter intellectual challenges or conflicts between religious teachings and scientific or philosophical perspectives, leading them to question or abandon their beliefs.

Social Pressures: Cultural or societal pressures to conform to certain norms or beliefs can influence individuals to abandon or suppress their religious identity.

Personal Trauma or Crisis: Personal trauma, loss, or crisis situations can shake an individual's faith and cause them to question the existence of a higher power or the fairness of religious teachings.

Desire for Freedom: Some individuals may feel restricted or oppressed by religious rules and regulations, leading them to seek freedom from religious constraints.

Attraction to Secularism: The appeal of secularism, with its emphasis on individual autonomy, rationality, and materialism, can draw people away from religious beliefs and practices.

Misguided Interpretation: Misinterpretation or manipulation of religious teachings by extremist groups or individuals can lead people down paths of radicalization or violence, distancing them from the true essence of their faith.

Lack of Community Support: A lack of supportive religious community or mentors to guide individuals in their spiritual journey can make it easier for them to drift away from their religious beliefs.

Spiritual Discontent: Individuals may experience a sense of spiritual discontent or existential crisis, feeling disconnected from their religious tradition and seeking alternative paths for meaning and fulfillment.

It's important to recognize that each person's journey with religion is unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all explanation for why people may go astray. Additionally, individuals may navigate periods of doubt or disbelief before ultimately reaffirming or renegotiating their relationship with religion. Providing understanding, empathy, and support to individuals grappling with questions of faith can be crucial in helping them navigate their spiritual journey.
